The Poison Called Sugar

Sugar causes serious damage to health. According to some scientists, it causes 75% of diseases. How to counteract?

Sugar , especially that which comes from processed foods, kills us slowly. This is the view of Dr. Robert Lustig, a pediatric endocrinologist at the University of California, San Francisco. This statement is not only dictated by the fact that its consumption leads to obesity , but by the way the calories from sugar react when they enter the bloodstream .

Sugar accounts for a much larger share of our daily consumption than we think. It is present in foods, including juices, sauces, sour milk , bread and many processed foods, which often resort to in everyday life.

Dr. Lustig openly declared war on sugar , and a number of studies came to support his claims. Lustig believes that 75% of diseases in modern times was due to her - obesity , type 2 diabetes , heart disease .. . All of these could be prevented if the daily sugar intake was reduced to 150 calories for men and 100 calories for women.

A study conducted by the University of California shows that not all calories are the same. When large amounts of glucose enter the liver , it is overloaded with fructose, so it converts some of the sugar into fats that enter the bloodstream. Once there, they are converted into so-called "bad" LDL cholesterol, which in turn builds up in the blood vessels. Formed fatty plaques that sooner or later lead to cardiovascular problems.

Sugar consumption is also associated with a risk of cancer. This is because many tumors, including those in the breast and colon, have receptors that 'smell' insulin.

The damage goes as follows: the body's insulin binds to the receptors and signals the tumors to start absorbing glucose, which we get from the sugar we consume.

How can we counteract? Here are four examples:

1. Replace desserts with raw fruits;
2 . Limit processed foods as much as possible; to pay attention to the labels;
3 . Replace sugary drinks with water;
4 . Let's try not to exceed the daily intake of sugar - up to 150 calories for men and up to 100 calories for women.
