Scientists have long established the exceptional qualities of the fruit , as well as their beneficial effects on health. However, according to a new study, they are more useful than previously thought. It found that daily consumption of fruit can reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease by 40%.
The seven-year study followed nearly half a million Chinese who had a history of cardiovascular disease and had not been treated for a variety of reasons.
The researchers divided the participants into five groups based on their fruit consumption : 1) never, 2) monthly, 3) once to three times a week, 4) four to five times a week, and 5) daily.
Scientists receive this information through questionnaires to which participants respond. The experts also collect other information on other factors related to the participants' lifestyle, such as smoking , alcohol consumption and others.
After the end of the study, experts found that compared to people who never eat fruit , those who consume about 150 g per day have a 40% lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease .
In more detail, the data looks like this: people who eat fruit every day have a 15% lower risk of developing coronary heart disease . They are also less likely to be affected by an ischemic stroke - by 25%, and as much as 40% less likely to suffer from a hemorrhagic stroke.
