Foods that are high in trans fats not only harm the waist, but can also have negative effects on the brain , according to a new study. It found that people in their prime were more likely to have memory problems when consuming harmful trans fats . They can be found mainly in the so-called "junk food" foods.
 
Previous studies have linked these fats to obesity and cardiovascular disease . There is even evidence that they contribute to aggressive behavior. 
 
The current study, which links trans fat consumption and memory impairment, is new, and its results were presented during scientific sessions of the American Heart Association.
 
According to the author of the study - Alexis Bue, every gram of unhealthy fat per day is associated with 0.76 words that we can not remember. This means that people who consume high amounts of trans fats may remember 11 words less than those who do not consume large amounts of these fats . 
 
During the study, the researchers did just that - they analyzed the relationship between trans fat consumption and participants' ability to remember a number of words. 
 
 
 
For the purpose of the study, 1,018 people took part. 694 of them are men. Their age is 20 years and older, and the women included in it are in the postmenopausal period, without a history of coronary or arterial disease. 
 
Based on the results of the study, the researchers believe that trans fats contribute to oxidative stress , which leads to cell damage. The bottom line is that they can damage memory in young people.
