The US Food and Drug Administration has announced that trans fats , which can be found in many foods, are not safe for health. This can lead to a ban on the use of hydrogenated fats in food preparation.
 
The decision is subject to 60 days of public comment. Cardiovascular disease is a serious problem on a global scale - it is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, and foods containing harmful fats are among the main factors contributing to the development of these diseases. 
 
The problem is extremely relevant for Bulgaria as well. According to the data in our country, two out of every three people die, due to cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction , stroke, heart failure.
 
Since 2006, the administration has required companies to indicate the presence of trans fats in food content . This causes many manufacturers to discontinue their use. Many places in the United States are already banned from using trans fats in restaurants.
