We are all convinced of how useful vegetable fats are, and how harmful animal fats, such as butter, are. However, this may not be entirely correct.
Until now, the consumption of animal fats was thought to increase blood cholesterol levels and is a major factor in the development of atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction.
However, Swedish researchers questioned the veracity of these claims and conducted a study among a group of volunteers of 19 women and 28 men.
During the study, the volunteers were divided into several groups, whose daily menu included different types of fats - linseed oil, olive oil and butter.
Participants ate three meals a day, with an average caloric intake of between 1,800 and 2,000 calories, and moderate exercise.
Every morning, the volunteers gave a blood sample to analyze cholesterol levels. Blood samples were taken one hour, three hours, and five hours after each meal.
The results clearly showed that the use of cow's oil increases the level of cholesterol in the bloodless than the use of vegetable fats - olive oil, vegetable oil or linseed oil.
The increase in cholesterol was more significant in men than in women.
According to scientists, the reason for these results is the molecular structure of different types of fats and the fact that the oil contains about 20% short and medium-chain fatty acids.
The authors explain the different reactions that are observed in the male and female bodies with hormonal differences and peculiarities in the metabolism of nutrients. It is characteristic of the female body that it accumulates the fats that get into it as subcutaneous and they get to a lesser extent into the circulatory system.
At the same time, nutritionists remind that regardless of their type, fats are high in calories and excessive consumption increases the risk of heart and cardiovascular disease.
