The results and data from the study were published in the American journal Arteriosclerosis , Thrombosis and Vascular Biology.

Previous studies have linked vitamin D deficiency to a variety of diseases and conditions, such as osteoporosis, heart problems, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease , schizophrenia, and some autoimmune diseases.

Foods such as fish oil, oily fish, tuna, mackerel and salmon, liver , cheese, eggs, dairy products, orange juice, soy milk and cereals are also good sources of vitamin D.

The recommended daily dose of the vitamin for children is 200-600 IU (international units), and for adults - 200-1000 IU.
