What Are The Benefits Of Fiber For Health?

With fiber or dietary fiber, we keep the stomach regular. What other benefits do they have?

Fiber or dietary fiber is a natural part of foods of plant origin. Their benefit is that passing through the digestive system they absorb water and support the peristalsis of the intestine. Fiber passes through the digestive tract undigested because it is not affected by enzymes. They are soluble and insoluble. They have a cleansing effect, as they attract a number of toxins accumulated in the colon.

Apart from the fact that with their help we can prevent stomach tightening, they also have other benefits for the body. By preventing constipation, the risk of developing and suffering from hemorrhoids decreases. This also prevents the development of colitis and generally reduces the risk of developing colon cancer.

A study by the University of Maryland Medical Center shows that fiber intake helps prevent cardiovascular disease. This is because soluble fiber helps to remove fat and lower blood cholesterol.

Fiber promotes the normalization of insulin and longer absorption of blood sugar, which prevents spikes in its levels. This is also proven in a study in which diabetics were subjected to a diet rich in dietary fiber. At the end, medics reported lower insulin in the volunteers than at the beginning.

A diet high in fiber helps control weight. First, because these foods create a greater feeling of satiety without being burdened with many calories and without consuming large amounts. Second, this food is digested more slowly and, accordingly, energy is released more evenly and for a longer time, which prevents additional consumption.

In most cases, these foods are generally particularly healthy and rich in vitamins and other beneficial nutrients.

Most dietary fiber is found in vegetables, fruits, grains and legumes, seeds. Good sources of fiber are oatmeal, muesli, Brussels sprouts, oranges, flaxseed, various varieties of beans.

Dairy foods, of course, do not contain fiber. These are found in negligible amounts in white bread.
