There are minimum criteria that must be available in order for yogurt to be a health product, not just a food or dessert.
Bulgarians are jealous of yogurt. We accept it as our national product. And we have the right to think so, since the bacteria that contribute to the production of fresh milk are bulgaricus , right?
In fact, it is the presence of Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus that can categorize a given dairy product as yogurt not only by our standards. This is a criterion that is also accepted by the National Yogurt Association in the United States.
To make sure that yogurt takes care of our health, and not just a food or dessert, American experts advise to first check whether the bucket contains these live crops. At least we can be sure that besides us, others adhere to the standards for quality yogurt.
It is rich in useful nutrients such as protein, calcium, magnesium, vitamin B 12. It also includes some fatty acids.
It is still not clear whether with regular consumption of yogurt we can keep our waist thinner or this is generally due to a healthier lifestyle and diet of those who consume it in general. The truth is that after consuming a bucket of yogurt we feel full, which can not be said about the same amount of any other product. In this sense, yogurt could really help us maintain our figure.
The real health benefits of yogurt are in the probiotics it contains. These living microorganisms are very similar to those of our natural intestinal microflora.
Modern science has found a variety of links between different conditions of the body and different types of bacteria, from susceptibility to infections and even mood disorders. According to scientists, certain types of bacteria / probiotics can help overcome certain psycho-emotional problems. Only science will seek and confirm such a connection between the intestinal microbiome and our physical and mental health. So far, there is evidence that yogurt can help improve digestive problems, such as diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome.
Obesity is another problem that could be linked to probiotics . It was found that in overweight people the composition of the intestinal microflora is quite different from those with a fine and normal structure. Researchers such as Dr. Stanford of Harvard University are currently looking for an answer to whether certain probiotics can actually achieve weight loss.
This is not yet clear. We know yogurt is still just food. Obviously, this is not how some milk producers in the West look at it. But it is definitely not far in the future when researchers will be able to tell us which probiotics in it are suitable for dealing with stomach problems, and why not the extra pounds.
It should contain no more than 10 grams of sugar per cup. To be more useful and filling, it is good to have a minimum of 5 grams of protein per serving. Then, in order for Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophiles to make sense , live and active crops must be in the order of at least 100 million per gram in milk production.
Finally, the milk with the least ingredients is the most beneficial for health. The inclusion of others such as sugar, fruit, muesli, cream, make it more like a dessert with a different taste. As for the taste, even plain yogurt differs in taste, it depends on the milk, fat content, acidity, brand, etc.
