Excess salt can create a number of health problems, so you can reduce your salt intake by adding more spices to your diet.
Consuming too much salt and sugar is a prerequisite for raising blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. If you want to reduce the excess sodium you take, choose a homemade food in which you can control the amount of added salt. And some spices can help enrich the dish without the need for additional salting. Here they are:
The spicy spice fits perfectly in both salty and sweet dishes. You can even add ginger to your water and tea. Put some of the root in the lentils or add to the vegetables. When you add ginger, the taste is enriched and a spicy note is added, reducing the desire for a well-salted dish. If you like stronger flavors, you can put grated ginger at the end of cooking to keep it fresh.
You guessed it, smoked hot red pepper brings two more flavors into your dish and enriches it even more. The next time you prepare dinner, add it - it goes well with everything: meat, rice, beans, potatoes. And you can even add a little spicy touch to your avocado sandwich.
Lime peel can flavor dishes and give them a very fresh aroma. It also creates a balance when using more aggressive spices such as sesame oil or soy sauce. Experiment and add lemon peel to more dishes to fill them with a whole new feel. It may come as a surprise to you, but lemon peel goes great with rice, yogurt, oatmeal, fruit, smoothies, soups. But it is important to use only the green part of the lime and trust reliable sources to know that the fruit is not processed. If you can't guarantee them, wash them well with warm water.
Garlic, in addition to being a very large antioxidant, also has various health benefits. Aromatic cloves can be baked whole with the peel, give a delicate aroma or add their taste more aggressively when cut and placed directly in the dishes. Garlic goes well with meat, tomato sauces, vegetables.
Turmeric and its active compounds have been linked to improving the immune system, and the spice is said to help maintain a healthy weight. Nowadays, both turmeric root and powder can be found. It goes very well with legumes, especially fresh lentils. An option is to add it to a salad dressing by mixing mashed turmeric root with lemon juice, olive oil and black pepper, of course, and a little high-quality sea salt.
Rosemary contains calcium, iron, vitamin B6, has antioxidant properties and improves digestion. Freshly chopped rosemary is a great addition to baked potatoes and carrots. Combine the spice with the fat and add it just before baking. The required amount is about 1 teaspoon per cup of vegetables.
We Bulgarians know cumin well and it is often present in our dishes. It is very popular in South Asia, North Africa and Latin America. Add cumin to baked potatoes, legumes (especially hummus) or meat.
Dill is used in Asian cuisine to control diabetes and heart disease. Fresh spice is very popular in Greek cuisine, especially as an additive to yogurt. You can also add to potatoes, zucchini, in tarator and various sauces.
Eragon is not very popular, despite its fresh taste and aroma. However, to get all the benefits of taste, you need to choose only fresh herbs, without any dried parts on them. Use as a salad dressing, combining with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and garlic. In addition, with the resulting dressing you can taste meat. Tarragon leaves will taste great both roasted fish and scrambled eggs.
You can't imagine salting tabula, do you? That is why parsley is a great spice, widely used, suitable for both cooking and cold dishes. You can even make parsley pesto and add it to roasted vegetables, eggs, fish. And in combination with garlic and butter it becomes a great addition to the toast.
In recent years, we seem to have rediscovered smoked pepper. Even a small amount of it enriches the dishes, it is suitable for various stews, meat and vegetables. You can also use it to flavor tofu, which generally has a more neutral taste.
