Easter is not complete without dyed eggs. We figure out which methods of coloring eggs are the most popular, and choose your own!

1. Natural dyes

For dyeing eggs, natural dyes are most often used: saffron, beets, orange peels, blue cabbage, turmeric, onion peel, spinach, coffee. The longer the egg is in a solution of water and dye, the more intense the color will be. For coloring, as a rule, already hard-boiled white eggs are used; they are dipped in a boiled solution of water, food dye ingredient and table vinegar. It is not necessary to boil eggs in advance if we paint them in onion skins.

By far the most popular, safe, and budget-friendly way to dye eggs is to use onion skins. Start collecting the husk a few weeks before Easter. Purple onions will give a burgundy hue, regular yellow - light brown.

Eggs can be made not just maroon-brown, but also decorated with drawings. To do this, use buckwheat, rice, herbs and threads. Parsley and arugula will give a beautiful pattern, and in order for the grass to stick to the eggs, it is fixed with gauze or stocking.

Fix a leaf of grass on the egg and send it to the stocking, then tie at the tip and place the next egg with a sprig.

You can fill the stocking with rice or buckwheat, and additionally fill it with onion peel.

If you didn’t find an unnecessary stocking, cut gauze into squares. Such a gauze bag with an egg and a sprig of parsley will need to be tightly tied with a thread at the base.

Boil eggs in stockings or gauze in water with onion peel for 8-10 minutes, then leave to cool. We choose from the water, clean it and you're done!

Another cool way to get an interesting pattern on eggs is to wrap them with string. You can attach a twig or leaves under the thread, and additionally pour rice into the pan with onion peel and eggs before cooking.

We paint quail eggs in the same way as chicken ones. First, boil the eggs until cooked, 5 minutes is enough. Prepare 3 tablespoons of turmeric, a good bunch of parsley or spinach, medium beets and 3 tablespoons of table vinegar.

Grind parsley in a blender, add a glass of water and a spoonful of vinegar, cook for 1-2 minutes. Grate the beets, pour a glass of cold water and add a spoonful of vinegar. Pour boiling water over a spoonful of turmeric, cool and also add a spoonful of vinegar. Dip a few boiled eggs into each container with the prepared solution and leave for at least an hour. Ready!

2. Food coloring

In the store you can buy ready-made bags with food coloring in different colors. How to dilute powder dye, read on the package. Usually, the contents of one sachet are diluted in a glass of boiling water, then a tablespoon of 9% vinegar should be added to the mixture.

We put the boiled eggs in the solution for 5 minutes and then select on a paper towel.

When the eggs are dry, they can be rubbed with vegetable oil for shine, tied with a bright ribbon, or decorated with a themed sticker.

It is recommended to dye whole eggs without cracks in this way.

3. DIY

White boiled eggs can be decorated with white patterned napkins using the decoupage technique. To do this, select napkins, separate the top layer, cut out the pattern. Prepare a bowl with a whipped protein and a brush.

Boil the eggs until done. When they are cool enough to handle, cover the egg with beaten egg white with a brush and glue a layer of patterned napkin. Again, go over the drawing with a brush dipped in protein. White will dry instantly! Ready! If the eggs have already cooled down, then you will have to wait a bit until our protein soil is completely dry.

Drawing on boiled eggs can also be done using figures cut from electrical tape. Stick the duct tape figures on the eggs, then color them with food coloring according to the instructions. When the eggs are completely dry, peel off the tape. The same effect will be obtained if you draw or write something on the egg with a wax pencil, and then color them; the pattern or lettering will remain white.
