9 Food Products Illustrating Human Ingenuity

Today in the local supermarket we can buy all the necessary food and products, even if we get unnecessary purchases for us, due to the large supply. But what is the truth about some of the mass-produced foods?

I want everything! Usually this thought passes through our mind while walking in one of the modern supermarkets. And during the "walk" we probably don't think that people used to produce their own food.

At the moment, however, the market is full of pre-cut bread, packaged butter, frozen chicken. Not to mention potato chips, ice cream, biscuits and frozen pizzas. These are products mass-produced around the world and consumed daily by all of us. But how do we know exactly which product to choose? We offer you some interesting and fun facts about mass-produced foods ...

French fries
In the last ten years, this food has gained a bad reputation, which is not surprising - it has a high content of starch. In addition, fast food restaurants are known for using trans fats to prepare them, which are harmful to the heart.

Probably many of us do not realize that in many places french fries are, among other things, sweet. This is a trick often used in various restaurants, because after dipping the potatoes in sugar, they acquire a nice golden-brown color when fried and become crispy - an effect that would be difficult to achieve at home.

The milk shake ...
Specialists in the food industry show an outstanding example of human ingenuity just to increase the demand for a product and its price is advantageous. In an effort to save money, scientists have found extremely sophisticated ways to replace natural, natural tastes.

To mimic the taste of strawberries, for example, the total mixture of the drink contains more than a dozen ingredients. When we consume strawberry-flavored drinks or desserts offered in fast food restaurants, we most likely eat products containing more than 50 different chemicals.

Algae and ice cream in one place ?!
If we had to choose what to garnish our ice cream with, few of us would name seaweed. Algae and ice cream are generally not considered compatible flavors. However, many mass-produced ice creams contain algae extract.

The extract is called carrageenan and can be seen in the list of ingredients of your favorite product. However, it is not there for taste - it has the function of a stabilizer. When the ice cream melts and freezes again, ice crystals form. Carrageenan has the ability to keep ice cream creamy, without crystals.

Worcester sauce
Worcestershire sauce is a popular spice, often used to flavor both fish delicacies and steaks, burgers, and Bloody Mary drinks. What many of us don't realize is that with the addition of Worcestershire sauce to Bloody Mary, the drink is no longer vegetarian.

The main ingredient in the sauce is anchovies, which are made by soaking small fish in vinegar until completely dissolved. Then add additional ingredients such as molasses, garlic, hot peppers.

The sauce is relatively nutritious, as anchovies are high in protein and calcium.
