In a 10-year study, researchers found that women who consumed large amounts of green vegetables felt much better during PMS . This is due to the iron that is obtained from the consumption of vegetables.
Researchers explain that iron is associated with increased secretion of serotonin , a hormone that regulates mood, also called the hormone of happiness.
The study included 3,000 women who completed questionnaires about the symptoms they experienced before menstruation and their diet.
Analyzing the results of the volunteers, the researchers found that 1968 of them who consumed regularly and in large quantities green vegetables had weak and almost no symptoms of premenstrual syndrome compared with 1,057 of women who did not consume these vegetables .
The results of the study are published in the American Journal of Epidemiology .
