Bechterew's Disease

Nutrition in the presence of the disease should be balanced, contain sufficient amounts of vitamins and trace elements, but calories should be controlled, because gaining weight is absolutely contraindicated in ankylosing spondylitis.

Bechterew's disease (ankylosing spondylitis) is a chronic disease of an autoimmune nature that causes inflammation of the joints (mainly affecting the spine). As a result, the bones that form the joints become completely fused and ankylosis occurs.

Eating in the presence of the disease must be balanced to contain a sufficient amount of vitamins and trace elements, but calories do not exceed the expended energy would otherwise accumulate excess weight, which is absolutely contraindicated in ankylosing spondylitis (with accumulation of unnecessary weight joints are heavily loaded).

The following principles must be adhered to:

  • to replace table salt with sea salt, some nutritionists recommend replacing salt with seaweed powder;
  • it is good to follow a Mediterranean diet;
  • the dairy products consumed should not be high in fat;
  • to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables;
  • salads should be seasoned only with unrefined vegetable fats: corn or sunflower oil, olive oil or linseed oil;
  • to include dried fruits, seeds and all kinds of nuts in the menu every day;
  • eat more leafy vegetables and green spices: parsley, dill, basil, lettuce;
  • in home-cooked food, emphasize whole-grain porridges and soups;
  • food and dishes should be fresh, food can be stewed or boiled (depending on the dish) or eaten raw;
  • jelly meat or fish can be consumed.
  • fatty meats should be limited.

Scientists have shown that vegetarians and raw foodists are much less likely to get Bechterew's disease , and people who have switched to such a diet feel much better.

Harmful and dangerous foods:

  • alcoholic beverages;
  • refined products;
  • semi-finished products, canned food, fast food;
  • salty, fried, greasy, smoked and spicy foods;
  • products containing the so-called E-ta.
