In case of concussion, easily digestible foods, steamed, as well as fruits and vegetables should be eaten.

Concussion is called damage to its tissues with possible disorders of its functioning caused by various injuries to the head. Concussion is a mild form of traumatic brain injury.

Bed rest is prescribed and it is recommended that the food consumed be easily digested. Fresh fruit, cooked or steamed, should be eaten. You should not overeat so as not to put extra strain on the body.

Useful foods for concussion

  • In case of concussion, it is useful to eat foods containing vitamin B, which normalizes the nervous system. These are: liver, pork, nuts, potatoes, egg yolk, asparagus, oysters, buckwheat, legumes (beans, peas), brewer's yeast, wholemeal bread, milk and fish.
  • For the full absorption of vitamin B in the body must have a sufficient amount of iron. Its sources are: buckwheat, oatmeal, barley porridge, wheat, legumes, spinach, liver, buckwheat, poultry.
  • In addition, poultry meat contains lecithin, which normalizes brain function. It is also found in eggs, liver and soy.
  • During this period, it is useful to eat vegetable soups and cereal soups based on fish or meat broth, because they improve digestion.
  • Fruits and vegetables, including green leaves, should be taken for maximum enrichment of the body with vitamins and useful microelements.
  • In case of concussion, the diet is completely determined by the medication taken. For example, if the patient is prescribed diuretics, he should increase the consumption of potassium-containing products. These can be dried apricots, dairy products, baked potatoes, various nuts, legumes, raisins, prunes, sea cabbage.
  • Milk, dairy and sour milk products also need to be present in the menu, because they contain calcium, which increases immunity and has a beneficial effect on metabolic processes in the body.
  • It is very important to eat fish regularly, as it is a source of polyunsaturated fatty acids such as Omega-3.
  • Vitamin C also helps the body fight stress and improve its overall condition. Products containing the vitamin are: rose hips, blackcurrants, sweet peppers, citrus fruits, honeysuckle, cabbage, viburnum, rowan, spinach.
  • In order to normalize the work of the brain and to protect it from stress, magnesium is needed, which is contained in buckwheat, barley and oatmeal, in various nuts, seaweed and legumes.
  • Honey and dried fruits can also be added to the menu. They contain glucose, which is necessary for the functioning of all cells in the body, including those of the brain.
  • To provide the necessary fats, it is best to consume nuts and vegetable oils (for example, olive oil).

Harmful products in case of concussion

Doctors recommend not drinking alcohol for at least 1 year after you have had a concussion because it puts extra strain on your blood vessels.

Exclude spicy and salty foods so as not to disturb the water-salt balance in the body. In addition, spices increase appetite, and this can lead to unwanted overeating and obesity.

Being overweight is also a consequence of consuming excessively fatty, smoked and fried products.

Exclude from the menu pastries made with margarine, also chocolate and confectionery in large quantities. For chocolate, note that consumed in moderation, it is useful because it contains glucose.

Strong tea and coffee should not be abused, because the presence of caffeine in them, which stimulates the nervous system, can lead to headaches and high blood pressure.
