Chocolate Is Good For The Brain

Cocoa flavonoids preserve the cognitive function of the brain, which is impaired with age.

Chocolate can be good for the brain . That's according to a new study that found that a diet rich in cocoa flavonoids could help maintain cognitive health.

However, the discovery does not mean that we can eat candy on our stomachs ...

Previous research in this area has found benefits of these flavonoids for people with mild cognitive impairment. The focus of the latest study is on healthy people who experience the usual "nervous exhaustion" that inevitably results from the natural aging process .

Researchers at Mount Carmel Catholic High School began their study among men and women between the ages of 61 and 85. All participants receive a beverage that contains high, medium or low amounts of cocoa flavonoids . They consume it every day for a period of eight weeks.

It is important to note that this is not an ordinary hot chocolate, but a drink that is prepared with a special powder that is enriched with cocoa flavonoids .

Participants who consumed beverages containing high or medium amounts of cocoa flavonoids appeared to show significant improvements in overall cognitive function . These include lowering blood pressure levels and improving insulin resistance.

According to scientists, these positive results may be due to improved vascular function .
