Just one cup of coffee a day can help reduce the risk of skin cancer , according to a new study.
And the amount of four cups of coffee a day can prevent the development of melanoma - the most dangerous and aggressive form of skin cancer. It usually starts from a mole and can be "unlocked" by sunlight. This amount refers to Schwartz coffee.
Researchers in the U.S. Department of Health's research department have been monitoring 450,000 men and women for a decade. The average age of the volunteers at the beginning of the study was 63 years, when none of them were affected by cancer. At the end of the study, nearly 3,000 were diagnosed with it.
Researchers found that those who consumed coffee - 90% of participants - were less likely to develop the disease. According to the data, the greater the amount of invigorating drink, the lower the risk of disease.
Those who drink four cups of coffee a day are 20% less likely to develop malignant skin disease than those who do not drink coffee at all. Analyzes from previous studies have shown that caffeine has the ability to destroy UV- damaged cells, leaving healthy ones unharmed.
The researchers explained that the results were not final and that further research was needed on the effect of coffee, and in particular on the effect of caffeine, on the development of melanoma.
The data are published in the journal of the National Cancer Institute in the United States.
