Whole milk products or their combination with others are helpful in reducing the risk of metabolic syndrome, high blood pressure and diabetes.
Blood pressure control, diabetes prevention and prevention are closely dependent on diet. The work of experts is aimed at looking for ways to reduce the risk factors for these health problems, as it is known that both diabetes and hypertension lead to even greater complications.
A group of American experts is focused on studying the impact of dairy products in the diet on health. Based on data from 150,000 people, they conclude that the consumption of milk and dairy products is associated with lower blood pressure values, and that their greater place in the daily menu reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes.
The study also documented that the consumption of whole milk products is associated with a lower incidence of metabolic syndrome in humans, and metabolic syndrome is a condition that is a particularly high risk factor for heart disease.
The study is cohort and international in scope. It includes data from 21 countries on 5 continents and people between the ages of 35 and 71. Its holding exceeds 9 years, contains a review of the medical documentation for the participants.
Consumption of at least two servings of dairy products per day compared to none of milk is associated with a 24% reduction in the risk of metabolic syndrome . One serving means 179 g of dairy product. This result refers to the consumption of a combination of whole and low-fat dairy products. If the preference is only for whole milk products, the result is 28%. No low-fat dairy products were found to be at risk .
The results regarding the risk of diabetes and high blood pressure are 11-12% when consuming whole and low-fat dairy products in combination, and the percentage is also higher when consuming only full-fat.
The oil could also be useful in this aspect, but only if it is consumed only 3 g per day on average.
After the products consumed were milk, fresh and sour, cheeses and dishes that are prepared with and are an essential part of them.
Other interesting findings are that people in Europe, North and South America eat more milk than in Asia and Africa. In North America and Europe, there is a preference for low-fat dairy products, while in other regions of the world, full-fat is preferred.
At this stage, it is not clear how dairy products affect the health problems in question. The fact is that they provide the body with high quality proteins, vitamins and minerals, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, phosphorus, vitamin A, vitamin B 12 and riboflavin, Andrew Ment, chief researcher at the Institute , told Medical News Today to study population health in Hamilton, Ontario, and co-authored the study.
The researchers plan to continue their scientific work, and if these results are confirmed in long-term testing, it may turn out that dairy consumption provides a cheap approach to prevent metabolic syndrome, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.
The study is presented in BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care.
