Prunes have a pleasant sweet and sour taste. Thanks to their remarkable properties, the diet, which includes dried fruits, helps to lose 2 - 4 kilograms without any problems in 4 days. This diet does not represent starvation, on the contrary, the body receives all the useful substances for it.

Research in favor of the claim that prunes help lose weight

The claim that the consumption of prunes promotes weight loss is supported by evidence based on research by scientists from the University of Liverpool. In their study, they found that the fruit included in a weight control diet facilitates weight loss.

The study by the University Institute of Psychology, Health and Society included 100 overweight and obese people who underwent a weight loss diet that included prunes over a 12-week period.

To assess the effects of prunes on weight and appetite, study participants were divided into two groups. In the first group, the volunteers consumed the fruit every day (140 grams per day for women and 171 grams for men), and in the second - received advice on healthy snacks during the period of active weight loss.

The data from the study demonstrate both weight loss and the absence of negative side effects from the consumption of prunes as part of a weight management diet.

Why are prunes suitable for weight loss?

  • They saturate well and their caloric content is relatively low.
  • The high content of pectins in the fruit allows them to be used as an effective means of cleansing the intestines.
  • Prunes are among the fruits with the highest potassium content (732 mg per 100 g). This element restores the water-salt balance, thus normalizing blood pressure. The fruits have a mild diuretic effect.
  • Prunes are rich in phosphorus, magnesium, iron, beta-carotene, B vitamins, organic acids.

How to choose prunes?

Useful for the body are those that:

  • not bitter, have a sweet taste, at best - slightly sour;
  • are saturated black;
  • they do not shine (if they have shine, it means that they are treated with grease and you will have to wash them very well with warm water).
