Use

Acetic acid is very often used in the food industry: in the manufacture of confectionery, mayonnaise, canned vegetables. If necessary, it is used in many cases as a disinfectant and disinfectant. The acid is also used in chemical production: for the production of acetate fiber, organic glass, for the preparation of drugs and esters.

The salts released from the composition of acetic acid are successfully used in the fight against plant pests. In pharmacology, the most common ethyl acetate is used, which is no different from acetylsalicylic acid, ie ordinary aspirin.

Impact on humans

Acetic acid is very toxic at high concentrations. Its degree of toxicity depends on how much water is diluted. The most dangerous for humans are solutions whose concentration exceeds 30%. Contact of mucous membranes or skin with concentrated acetic acid leads to severe chemical burns.

The additive E 260 is approved for use in all countries of the world and is considered safe for human health. The only advice of experts is to limit the intake of products containing acetic acid in people with diseases of the liver and gastrointestinal tract. Such foods should not be given to children under 6-7 years.
