The food additive refers to the stabilizers that are used to maintain the viscosity and consistency of the products and to improve their properties. In some countries it is approved for use, but based on various sources, its addition to food must be extremely careful.

E 433 is a chemical compound derived from stearic acid and ethylene oxide.

In the preparation of the polysorbate additive , the use of vegetable fats is permitted. E 433 is a consequence of the polymerization of complex sorbitan esters or lauric acid into ethylene oxides. Possible impurities: free lauric acid, solvents and polyoxyethylenes.

Use

Polysorbate is used in the food industry in strictly defined quantities. It is also used in the preparation of dispersed oils and fat-soluble flavors.

The additive is used mainly in the production of margarines and fats, cream, ice cream, cakes and others. In products with high acidity it is added as a foaming agent, and in fats - as a means of stopping foaming.

Polysorbate is used in pharmacology and cosmetics to make hygiene products.

Impact on humans

The maximum allowable daily dose of the supplement is 15 mg per 1 kg of body weight and is determined individually. The use of the substance in baby and diet foods is strictly prohibited. It can cause allergic reactions and irritate the mucous membranes.
