Eating For Cough

Cough usually occurs in colds, when the body's defenses are reduced. Therefore, the main role of food is to strengthen immunity, eliminate broncho-pulmonary spasms, fight germs and viruses, to restore deficiency.

Cough is a protective reaction of the body, whose role is expressed in the purification of the respiratory tract from various secretions, blood, pus, sputum, dust, food debris.

The causes of cough can be various: from a cold to an overly emotional conversation. We will pay attention to nutrition because it is important for the success of the treatment of the illness.

Cough usually occurs in colds, when the body's defenses are reduced. Therefore, the main role of food is to strengthen immunity, eliminate broncho-pulmonary spasms, fight germs and viruses, restore the lack of vitamins (especially from groups A, C, E), minerals, proteins (explained by the fact that protein is lost during expectoration and if it is not obtained, protein deficiency may develop).

Useful foods for cough

To achieve good results in the fight against cough should take the following products:

Of animal origin:
  • lean meat;
  • fish (preferably fatty species; omega-3 fatty acids lubricate the throat, which eliminates irritation and relieves expectoration);
  • cod liver;
  • yogurt products (help to reduce fever, and calcium helps to eliminate the inflammatory process).
Of plant origin:
  • bean cultures;
  • sprouted wheat grains;
  • seeds (pumpkin, sunflower and sesame), sesame oil;
  • olives and olive oil;
  • nuts;
  • cereals and cereals (rice, buckwheat, oats);
  • vegetables (tomatoes, carrots, all kinds of cabbage, beets, onions, garlic, pumpkin, turnips);
  • fruits and berries (bananas, citrus fruits, strawberries, raspberries, ginger, melon, papaya, peaches, avocados, blackcurrants, apples, figs, grapes);
  • green leafy vegetables and green spices.

To dilute the sputum and help expel it, the body needs to drink plenty of fluids. Hot drinks are recommended: natural linden and raspberry tea; boiled milk sweetened with honey; cocoa. Fruit and vegetable juices, lemon water are also useful.

Feeding should be 5-6 times a day, and the amount of fluids not less than a liter and a half.

The human lungs have an exceptional ability to self-cleanse. Thus, from the bottom up, tiny dust particles and hairs "come out" of the bronchi along the trachea, clearing our airway. This process helps to free the lungs from everything unnecessary. The body naturally has another mechanism for purification and this is the cough, contraction / contractions of the breasts during which they also contribute to the clearing of the lungs of mucus.

Harmful food for cough

  • sweets (jam suppresses the work of the immune system, and sugar partially remains on the walls of the oral cavity and pharynx, which helps to create a favorable environment for the development of microbes);
  • large amounts of salt (sodium contained in common table salt can cause bronchial obstruction);
  • coffee and alcoholic beverages (may lead to dehydration);
  • allergen products if the cough is due to asthma or is allergic (spicy dishes, chocolate, spices, products containing various food additives, marinades, pickles, eggs, highly concentrated broths, broth from ready-made cubes, spices-substitutes for vegetables, fast food, semi-finished products);
  • solid food, rusks, biscuits, shortbread and puff pastry (solid food can scratch the esophagus, and crumbs can cause severe coughing, choking, suffocation).
