Amyloidosis is a disease characterized by impaired protein metabolism, as a result of which a protein-polysaccharide complex (amyloid) is formed and accumulates in the tissues.

Types of amyloidosis :

  • primary;
  • secondary;
  • idiopathic;
  • senile;
  • dialysis.

Causes of the disease:

  • genetic predisposition;
  • conducting hemodialysis;
  • presence of acute, chronic inflammatory and infectious diseases;
  • people over the age of 40 are more susceptible to developing such a health problem.

Signs of amyloidosis:

  • Gastrointestinal tract: increase in the size of the tongue, disturbance of the swallowing reflex, upset stomach or vice versa - constipation. It is possible, although rare, to have swelling in the intestines and abdomen, a feeling of heaviness in the abdomen, nausea after eating, regurgitation (belching).
  • Cardiovascular system: heart failure, irregular heartbeat.
  • Central nervous system: frequent headache, increased sweating, dizziness, impaired sensitivity of the limbs, feeling of daggers at the toes and hands, impotence, urination, incontinence (incontinence).
  • Cartilage system: hard swelling of the joints, tingling in the limbs, throbbing pain in the fingers, polyarthritis, periarthritis.
  • Enlargement of the spleen.
  • Respiratory system: persistent bronchitis, hoarse voice, lung tumors.

Useful foods for amyloidosis

In the presence of the disease, a diet should be followed in which the body is saturated with potassium , starch and vitamin C.

Potassium-rich foods:
  • vegetables (cucumbers, potatoes, zucchini, parsnips, carrots, green leafy vegetables);
  • legumes, including peanuts;
  • honey and bee products, especially pollen;
  • Apple vinegar;
  • mushrooms;
  • fresh fruits (watermelon, oranges, melons, bananas);
  • dried fruits (raisins, apricots, prunes, figs);
  • rye bread, wheat bran;
  • яdki (cedars, almonds);
  • wheat and oatmeal;
  • products of animal origin: beef, fish, liver, dairy products;
  • tea.
Starchy foods include:
  • porridge: oatmeal, buckwheat, millet, wheat and rice (brown), also barley and semolina;
  • bakery and pasta products, oatmeal cookies;
  • cereals: rye, wheat, oats, corn;
  • beans and peas;
  • horseradish roots and ginger.

Small amounts of starch are contained in pumpkin, carrots, tomatoes, garlic, cabbage, radishes, parsley, so we will not focus on them.

Foods that give the body vitamin C:
  • berry: rose hips, sea buckthorn, blackcurrant, viburnum, rowan, strawberry, the herb honeysuckle;
  • citrus fruits;
  • kiwi ;
  • all kinds of cabbage;
  • sweet and hot peppers;
  • horseradish root;
  • young garlic;
  • spinach.

Dangerous and valuable foods for amyloidosis:

As potassium is washed away from confectionery, it should not be consumed. Do not take products containing caffeine, alcoholic beverages. Excessive physical activity and stress also wash the substance out of the body.

It is necessary to limit protein foods:
  • tofu;
  • egg white;
  • desserts and small sweets type "kisses";
  • soy milk;
  • lean beef and veal;
  • rabbit and chicken;
  • seafood;
  • lentils .
