If you have had a heart attack , you should eat high- fiber foods. This will increase your chances of a speedy recovery, say British scientists.
A study by the British Heart Research Foundation , published in the British Medical Journal, shows that people who have suffered a heart attack can prolong their lives by at least nine years if they follow a high-fiber diet.
Vegetable fiber is found in vegetables, fruits, whole grain flours, oat bran and legumes such as ripe beans, lentils, peas, soybeans.
It turns out that with every 10 grams a day of them the risk of heart problems and premature death decreases by 15%.
The claim is supported by a study by a team from the Harvard School of Public Health , which involved more than 4,000 men and women who had suffered a heart attack, who had to provide detailed information about their diet.
They were followed for nearly ten years.
At the end of the study, those who regularly ate foods high in fiber, especially cereals , were in the best condition .
Experts point out that fiber is an integral part of a healthy and balanced diet and keeps the heart healthier.
