Figs are a rich source of fiber, potassium, calcium and other nutrients. They do help with some conditions, but care must be taken

It is said that vitamin C in the fruit is lost after prolonged stay and drying. This can be confirmed by comparing the data of dried and fresh figs - in 100 g of the former its amount is 2 mg, in the latter - 1.2 mg. This dependence is also true for vitamin A, which literally disappears from dried fruit, and beta-carotene, which drops dramatically from 85 micrograms to 6 (per 100 g).

 

And so, it is clear that figs are useful - they are a natural product of nature, which can not be replaced by any cocktail, a product of human creativity.


 

What can we eat figs for the most part - definitely if we suffer from constipation, regardless of whether we reach for fresh or dried fruit, the fiber is a lot: 2.9 g in one and 9.8 g in the other.

 

However, if we aim to eat figs regularly to deal with this problem, we must take into account that especially dried figs are rich in sweetness - they contain nearly 48 g of sugar per 100 g! That is, we can afford to eat 100 g of dried figs once and in the following days to limit ourselves to two, which are enough for us to taste, enjoy or get fiber.

 

Due to the high amount of sugar, people with and prone to developing diabetes should be careful. To blunt the bad effect of ingested sugar on blood values, it is good to mix dried figs with other foods - for example, in a mix with oatmeal, seeds and other fruits with milk. Yogurt can be added to the bucket. Or invent a caramel fig cream - to get from mixing eggs and sugar-free milk, sweetened with pieces of dried figs (Find a recipe or experiment!)

 

Figs are also valuable for our health because of their high calcium content - 162 mg per 100 dried product, which we know our bones need, as well as 680 mg of potassium - which can neutralize sodium in the body and achieve a good balance for good blood pressure and heart health. 

 

They also contain magnesium, phosphorus - with which we strengthen bones and teeth and even our emotional state before a cycle, if we are women. 

 

Lutein and zeaxanthin help with good eyesight.

 

They also contain iron, folic acid, choline and vitamin K.

 

According to Indian healers, figs help with endocrine, respiratory, digestive, immune and reproductive problems. Studies have shown that it has antioxidant, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory effects, as well as helps reduce fat and protects cells from damage. 

 

Oddly enough, due to their high sugar content, fig leaf extract has contributed to lowering blood glucose levels taken after a meal and protects the liver from stress - it stops or lowers the secretion of glucose in it. 


Figs are believed to have a positive effect on libido and even improve erectile dysfunction. Alas, this action has not yet been scientifically confirmed. The situation is similar with regard to the action of an alcoholic fig extract, which has been shown to lower fever.
 
Along with the beneficial effects of figs, they can also have a negative effect. Due to the presence of vitamin K, regular consumption of anticoagulants is unlikely to be desirable. Experts warn that precisely because of the high concentration of fiber in excessive consumption, figs can lead to diarrhea.
