Fruit And Natural Sugar - Is It Useful?

Consumption of sugar is harmful, but what does it matter if it is refined or natural?

It is well known that sugar is harmful, but it is still difficult to resist some temptations. Many of us are addicted without even suspecting it. For this reason, various facts regarding the benefits and harms of sugar consumption are widespread .

We offer two of the most common myths associated with sugar consumption?

Myth: Smoothies and fruit juices are good

Although the consumption of whole fruit always brings health benefits, this is not the case with fruit smoothies and juices. When the fruit is squeezed, the sugars in it are released , which can cause serious damage to the teeth . The more we consume during the day, the greater the damage to the teeth.

Experts recommend limiting the consumption of fruit juice to 150 ml per day to protect the health of your teeth. For the same reason, it is advisable to avoid consuming excessive amounts of dried fruit .

Myth: Natural alternatives are always useful

Is it really better to replace refined sugars with natural ones, including maple syrup, agave nectar and honey? There are different opinions on this topic, but these natural sweeteners are also high in sugar and should also be used sparingly.

Agave nectar and honey in particular are more caloric than refined sugar, although they also contain more antioxidants and nutrients.

Sugars that are higher in fructose , such as agave syrup, are less likely to cause a "jump" in blood sugar levels .

On the other hand, the high content of fructose burdens the liver and when the organ is overloaded, fat accumulation occurs.
