Grapefruit Diet - One Week

Grapefruit helps to lose weight, thanks to the enzymes that are part of it, which contribute to the breakdown of fats. With this diet you can lose weight by up to 5 pounds per week.

Nutritionists define grapefruit as a fruit that is able to cope with the breakdown of fat due to the presence of the appropriate enzymes, so they recommend it to those who want to lose weight and maintain a normal weight.

The diet we offer you will help you lose 3 to 5 pounds in a week. According to some sources, the lost weight can reach up to 7.

The essence of the grapefruit diet

There are many options for weight loss with grapefruit, but they are all based on one rule - to eat 1/2 of the citrus before each meal to get the body enzymes that break down fat. The juice of the fruit can be taken with the same success as the fruit. For greater effect, it is good to drink it 20 minutes before eating. But the acids in citrus can dramatically lower the pH of the stomach and lead to a number of unpleasant sensations. Therefore, people with increased gastric secretion should drink a glass of grapefruit juice diluted with water a few minutes after eating. This will protect the mucosa from the aggressive effects of fruit acid and bile production will be sufficiently activated.

Another key point for the diet is, calories are limited to 800 per day. The meat should be fat-free, the fish should not be greasy, canned fish can be eaten in its own sauce (preferably tuna). Prohibited: sugar, salt, sauces, spices (except paprika). Of the teas, green is preferred, but it should not be strong. Coffee is good to be instant, not freshly brewed.

  • Lunch: 200 milliliters of unsweetened grapefruit juice, salad of red or green vegetables, meat - the amount is not limited.
  • Dinner: 200 milliliters of unsweetened grapefruit juice, salad of red or green vegetables, meat or fish (but not both at the same time), sugar-free tea;
  • Before bed: 200 milliliters of tomato juice.

It is necessary to drink a minimum of 2 liters of water daily. The diet should be strictly followed. Any eating between main meals is forbidden.

Weight loss with grapefruit - benefits

The main advantage of this diet is that citrus is an amazing source of vitamins and is a low-calorie product. The vitamins in it restore the body's strength, especially in winter and early spring, when most people suffer from beriberi. The large amount of vitamin C in the fruit helps the body's resistance to viruses, the vitamin is an antioxidant, it is also necessary for skin health. Other vitamins in grapefruit are B, D, P and A.

Regular consumption of citrus normalizes the digestive system and blood pressure, helps the recovery processes of the liver.

The grapefruit diet has long been popular. But only a few years ago it was scientifically substantiated. Studies show that the fruit contains the flavonoid naringin, which actually has a fat-burning effect. This is due to the fact that the substance activates the work of the liver and has a pronounced choleretic effect (bile secretion). And as it is known, it is the bile that breaks down the complex fats that enter the body through food.

Naringin is also the reason for the bitter taste of grapefruit . Those who want to lose weight must sacrifice and consume it with the skins.

Weight loss with grapefruit - disadvantages and contraindications

If you suffer from a stomach ulcer or gastritis, this diet is not for you. Women who are in the postmenopausal period should also be careful with the consumption of grapefruit, as some studies suggest a link between the daily intake of the fetus then and the development of breast cancer.
