Green Tea Removes Bad Breath

Consumption of the drink also helps reduce the risk of developing oral cancer in smokers.

Consumption of a cup or two of green tea a day helps maintain dental health, scientists from the Institute of Technology in Israel found.

Green tea prevents the onset of carious processes. It is also useful against bad breath, according to research data.

According to experts, the benefits are due to the high content of polyphenols in tea.

There is growing evidence of the beneficial role of green tea and polyphenols in maintaining oral health, researchers say. Polyphenols eliminate the acid released by the activity of bacteria, which causes the formation of microscopic cavities in the tooth and hence caries.

The polyphenols in green tea help eliminate bad breath by deactivating sulfur compounds in the mouth from the activity of bacteria.

The drink may even help reduce the risk of developing oral cancer among smokers, researchers say.

Cigarette chemicals are known to cause oxidative stress and inflammation in the mouth, which can lead to cell damage and cancer. According to experts, the antioxidants in green tea help prevent this process.

Other studies show that the polyphenols in the drink are useful in protecting the body from viruses and influenza.
