How Does Food Affect Our Mood After 30?

After the age of 30, food has a strong effect on both our physique and our mood.

Slowing down the metabolism with age requires us to impose changes in our diet every year after the age of 30 , in order to slow down the constant deposition of extra pounds .

However, new research shows that our body reacts to food with age in a way that far exceeds the accumulation of excess weight. Researchers at New York University have found that certain foods begin to affect our mental health in different ways after the age of 30.

The changes are both positive and negative.

It has been found, for example, that after the age of 30, caffeinated beverages and foods with a high glycemic index, containing simple sugars, have a negative effect on our mood and can trigger anxiety or increase its manifestations.

On the other hand, entering adulthood exacerbates our sensitivity to dopamine or serotonin deficiencies in the brain. Therefore, after the age of 30, our mood easily improves after consuming meat, legumes, strawberries, cherries and other foods that increase the levels of these neurotransmitters in the body.

The positive effect of the consumption of some foods after the age of 30 is evidenced by the fact that the influence of antioxidants in food gradually increases after this age. Thus, the intake of foods rich in antioxidants begins to bring much clearer benefits for neutralizing free radicals in the body.

This is a very positive effect, as the intensity with which free radicals are formed and their negative impact gradually increases with age.

One of the areas of health on which free radicals have the most negative effect after the age of 30 is brain activity and emotional health . Thus, increased consumption of antioxidants with food and reduced intake of sugary foods can help maintain lasting positive emotions and more easily neutralize anxiety and the effects of stress.

Typically, after the holidays, people over the age of 30 become more susceptible to negative emotions. Thus, a diet oriented towards foods that will restore their emotional balance can help keep the good mood from the holidays for longer.
