Poached eggs have gained a fair reputation for being difficult to cook. The truth is that with the right technique and a little practice, they can easily turn a salad into a main dish or breakfast into a remarkable event.

The main problem that people face when preparing poached eggs is that the whites become like thin rags, instead of getting the perfect round poached egg, which is served in restaurants. With these easy instructions you will learn how to make a perfectly poached egg like in a textbook.

What do you need:

  • pot
  • water
  • slotted spoon
  • 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar
  • eggs (the fresher they are, the better)

step 1

Boil the water and add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to it. Beat each of the eggs in a small bowl so that it is easy for you to pour them into the pot of water. Eggs cook quickly, so you need to be quick.

Step 2

When the water starts to boil, reduce the temperature and let the liquid simmer slightly. Dip the bowl with the egg in the pan and wait for the water to cook the egg for a few seconds before pouring. This will prevent the formation of rags. Treat the other eggs in the same way.

Step 3

Gently stir the water with a slotted spoon while the eggs are boiling. Cook for 3 minutes for a soft and liquid yolk or 5 minutes for a harder boiled yolk. Then remove with a slotted spoon in the order in which you put them in the pan. Drain the excess water and place the poached eggs on a paper towel. Serve as a side dish in a salad, on a sandwich or in a soup and season with salt and pepper.

Step 4

This step is optional. If you make poached eggs for more people, you can cook them and store them in a bowl of ice water for up to an hour. When it's time to serve, put them back in hot water until they warm up (about 45 seconds).

Now that you know how to spread a perfect egg, try making pea and asparagus soup with a poached egg or a sandwich with smoked salmon, poached egg and kale.
