Learn how to cook "Kringle - Danish cake with cinnamon and nuts". Delicious recipe.

Kringle is not a very famous pastry, but it dates back to the 13th century in Denmark. The word kringle comes from the old Norwegian word "Kringla", which means circle. This cake has been declared the official food of Wisconsin. Their version is made of puff pastry, which takes three days to make. But you will not need so much time to complete this recipe. The filling is an oily combination of pecans and cinnamon.

Necessary products:

for the dough:
  • 2 teaspoons flour
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 5 tablespoons slightly warmed milk
  • 1 egg for spreading
for the stuffing:
  • 6 tablespoons softened butter
  • 5 tablespoons finely chopped pecans (you can put walnuts or other nuts of your choice)
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
for the glaze:
  • 3/4 tea cup powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons of milk

Method of preparation:

First, in a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, yeast and cardamom. Make a well in the center.

Melt the butter (it should not be hot, but slightly warm) and add it in the center, put the egg there. Stir with a spatula or wooden spoon. Gradually add the milk to make a dough (the whole amount of milk may not be available). When you form a ball, transfer the dough to a greased bowl, turn it over and cover the bowl with foil. Leave to rise in the heat for 2-3 hours.

Meanwhile, prepare the filling. In a large bowl, place the soft butter, walnuts, sugar and cinnamon.

Prepare a large pan, cover with baking paper and grease.

On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a long strip about 10-12 cm wide and about 70 cm long.

Put the filling in the center along the entire length and cover with the edges. A long thin strip is obtained.

Carefully transfer to the prepared pan and form a circle, overlapping the edges well. Cover with foil and leave to rise for 30 minutes.

During this time you can preheat the oven to 200 degrees.

Just before putting the dessert in the oven, spread with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 20 minutes until it acquires a nice golden tan.

Wait before applying the glaze. To prepare it, you only need to mix sugar and milk, then pour the cake evenly. You can now serve, enjoy!
