In a small saucepan put the corn, pepper, broth, water, porridge, and season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer until ready - if you have a slow cooker, you can cook the porridge in it - for 7-8 hours on low, or 3.5 hours on high.
In a pan fry sliced bacon and drain it on kitchen paper.
In a bowl, mix the bacon, tomatoes, basil, and green onions.
Fry the shrimp in the bacon fat and add the cheese to melt. If you find the texture thick, add a little milk.
Serve the porridge garnished with shrimp, bacon, and vegetables.
