Prunes are a low-calorie fruit that is often prepared in the form of jams and preserves or eaten dried. Prune jam is used to sweeten cakes, cupcakes, pancakes and other desserts. Due to its rich nutritional composition, the fruit has a beneficial effect on digestion, heart health, brain function and acts as an immunostimulant. Here are some recipes on how to make homemade prune jam .

Classic prune jam

Necessary products:
  • 5 kilograms of prunes
  • 3 kilograms of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons citric acid
Method of preparation:

Wash, cut in half and separate the pits from the prunes. Sprinkle the fruit with sugar and leave overnight. In the morning, boil them until the desired density. Pour the citric acid just before removing the jam from the heat. Pour the jam into jars and close them immediately, then turn them over and leave to cool.

Prune jam with walnuts and cinnamon

Necessary products:
  • 2 kilograms of prunes
  • 400 grams of walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1.5 kilograms of sugar
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks
Method of preparation:

Peel a squash, grate it and squeeze the juice. Add the walnuts, which you have previously dried in a dry pan, to the halves. Sprinkle with sugar, pour water, put 1-2 cinnamon sticks and place the dish on the stove. After its contents boil, reduce the heat and cook for 20 minutes, periodically removing the foam. Plums should soften. Once this is done, distribute the jam in jars and close them immediately. Remove the cinnamon stick from the fruit sweetness beforehand. Turn the jars over and leave them to cool completely.

Prune jam with bananas and walnuts

Necessary products:
  • 1 kg of prunes
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 bananas
  • 100 grams of crushed walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • 1 lemon
Method of preparation:

Wash the plums well, remove the stones, pour the lemon juice over them and add the sugar. Leave them to stand overnight, then put to boil on the stove for 10 minutes. If necessary, pour a little water - about 100 milliliters. When the plums have cooled, grind them with a blender.

Peel the bananas, cut them into pieces and mash with a fork. Add the cocoa to them and stir. Pour the resulting banana puree over the plums, add the crushed walnuts. Stir and transfer the fruit mixture to a suitable container. Put on the stove and cook, stirring constantly, over low heat for 10 minutes. Distribute the jam in jars, close them and store in the refrigerator.

Prune jam with raisins, orange and walnuts

Necessary products:
  • 500 grams of prunes
  • 1 orange
  • grated orange peel
  • 75 grams of raisins
  • 600 grams of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 liter of water
  • 60 grams of walnuts in shell, cleaned and cut into pieces
Method of preparation

Pour water over the prunes and leave overnight, then drain the water and remove the stones. Pour warm water over the raisins for 30 minutes, then drain the liquid. Using a grater, remove the outer layer of orange peel, peel the citrus and cut the inside into pieces, removing the seeds.

Put the prunes, orange peel and soft part of the fruit in a wide saucepan. Fill them with 1 liter of water and cook for 10 minutes. Then add the raisins, sugar and spices. Leave the mixture on the stove and stir constantly until the sugar is completely melted. Continue to simmer (stirring occasionally) until the jam is about 1 liter or to the desired consistency.

About 30 minutes before the end of cooking, sterilize jars (pre-dried) as follows: place them on the oven rack at 200 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes. Turn off the oven, but leave the jars in it until you start to distribute the jam in them. Cook the lids for 10-15 minutes.

Pour the walnuts into the jam and fill the jars while it is still hot. Close and store.

Serve prune jam as a filling for pancakes, on ice cream or as you like!
