In the second part of "Poisonous fruits and vegetables that we eat every day" we  continue with interesting and useful facts about several other foods, frequent guests at our table.

Nutmeg

It contains the psychoactive substance myristicin. Taking too much of it can cause vomiting, sweating, dizziness, hallucinations and headaches. But you should not worry, because the quantities used in the preparation of meals can not cause all these ailments.

Recently, nutmeg has been used as a soft drug by young people, which often leads to not very good consequences.

Mushrooms - poisonous and edible

In many countries around the world mushrooms are a delicacy, grown commercially. As we all know, there is also a family of poisonous mushrooms. According to many people, such species are clearly recognizable by the ring on the stems, the bright color, the unpleasant odor. Of course, you need to be a proven connoisseur and know a lot about mushrooms, so you risk cooking with them if you got them yourself.

Signs of poisoning can appear up to an hour or two after eating mushrooms, and sometimes after 8 to 12 hours and are expressed in: stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. Poisoning can also occur after consumption of improperly prepared and rotten / spoiled edible species.

Chocolate

You are probably wondering why many of us' favorite temptation is on this list. We hasten to reassure you, because chocolate is not poisonous to humans, but to dogs and cats. This is what the substance theobromine contains. Only 40 grams of the product are enough to seriously poison the animal.

Although the amount of theobromine in chocolate is very small, some adults do not tolerate the product well.

Potatoes . Green potatoes

Potatoes are one of the most common vegetables in the world. Like tomatoes, they contain glycoalkaloids in the leaves and stems. The tubers themselves are not dangerous for consumption if they are not green and have not sprouted. Green potatoes contain solanine, which appears under the influence of ultraviolet light.

After ingestion of large amounts of the substance, the following signs of poisoning are observed: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and in severe cases may lead to coma and even death. That is why potatoes should be stored properly - in a cool and dark place.

Apples

In fact, apples are on this list because of their seeds. They, as well as those of cherries and almonds, contain small amounts of cyanide. To get poisoned, you must have eaten a large dose of seeds. If you accidentally swallow several of these targets, it will not affect your health, because our body can handle small amounts of the substance in question. But chewing the seeds makes them dangerous, especially for young children and pets.
