Learn how to cook "What is the difference between long grain, medium grain and short grain rice". Delicious recipe.
Rice is a well-known and widely used product in our country. Its perfect preparation is not an easy task. In addition, there are different varieties with different grain sizes and it is not always possible to understand which type is suitable for which dish. While some recipes say exactly what rice to use, others do not, and knowing the uses of different types of rice - long grain, medium grain and short grain - can guarantee you a tasty and finished dish.
Usually the grains of long-grain rice are about 4-5 times longer than the width. For novice cooks, this variety is best suited for cooking. It does not stick and does not become too fluffy - an ability that other types of rice have. Instead, all the grains remain separated and a dry and pleasant texture is obtained. The most popular types are basmati and jasmine rice.
The grains of medium-grained rice are about 2-3 times longer than the width. With its slightly rough surface with this variety you can prepare more fluffy side dishes or dishes, such as risotto or paella.
Short-grain rice is often confused with medium-grain rice, but it is as wide as it is long. The grains stick to each other, which makes this type most suitable for sushi, pudding or any dish that requires rice shaping. The final product is very soft and tender, so if you need sticky rice, this is the right choice.
