The structure of human hair contains a substance that is responsible for color - melanin. With age or under the influence of some other factors (which we will mention below) the production of melanin decreases and the hair gradually begins to lose its color, turn white. The amount of this pigment in the hair follicles determines the color of the hair in general. The lighter the hair, the less melanin it contains, so light hair turns gray faster, although white hair is more noticeable on dark hair.

Causes of early graying:

  • Heredity;
  • Impaired metabolism;
  • Vitamin B deficiency;
  • Deficiency of tyrosine, which is a component of most proteins. Therefore, to prevent premature whitening, experts advise not to deprive yourself of protein foods for a long time (find a worthy substitute for diets with limited protein content).
  • Improper nutrition: absence of fish in the menu, also of fruits and vegetables, hence the insufficient amount of minerals and vitamins in the body (calcium, iron, zinc). Lack of honey leads to the same result. The mineral enters our body through certain foods: nuts, wheat germ, beans, lentils, parsley;
  • Alcohol and strong coffee abuse;
  • Prolonged exposure to sunlight;
  • Stress, strong emotional or nervous disorders;
  • Some diseases: pernicious anemia (vitamin B12 deficiency), hyperthyroidism (increased thyroid function), progeria (premature aging) and Werner's syndrome.

The process of graying hair is irreversible and cases of return to natural color are extremely rare and are exceptions.

How to prevent early whitening?

  • To prevent early graying of the hair, paraaminobenzoic acid, which is involved in the absorption of protein, can help in the production of erythrocytes (red blood cells), which supply the body's cells with oxygen. In addition, this acid optimizes the development of normal intestinal microflora, producing folic acid - an important vitamin for health and beauty.
  • To improve the nutrition of the scalp cells, vitamin A (carotene) - the "beauty vitamin" - is needed to make hair smooth and shiny.
  • B vitamins and PP (nicotinic acid) help to strengthen the hair root and prevent hair loss. Vitamin B3 is thought to slow down graying, B2 and B6 improve the nutrition of hair and skin cells, and B5 normalizes their water-fat balance.

In Eastern medicine, it was believed that sometimes white hair was due to kidney disease. Therefore, if gray hair appears too early and this is not explained by a genetic predisposition, it is advisable to consult a nephrologist.

Basic ways to combat gray hair:

  • Take 1-3 tablespoons daily juice of parsley, celery or parsnips.
  • Rubbing nettle infusion into the roots.
  • Consumption and rubbing into the hair roots of juices of cherries, apricots, pears, cabbage and onions.
  • Intake of vitamins A, C, E, group B, nicotinic acid, riboflavin, folic acid, methianine (2 times a year).

As a last resort, you should consult a dermatologist or trichologist, who will prescribe individual treatment.

Scientists explain that gray hair is due to a natural process of discoloration. The reason for this is the high content of hydrogen peroxide (hydrogen peroxide), which oxidizes the enzymes that maintain the natural color. An international group of scientists came to this conclusion. The first connection between whitening and the level of hydrogen peroxide was discovered by the British John Wood. It is clear that the higher the content of hydrogen peroxide, the more gray hair. This discovery could lead to the emergence of means to restore the natural color of hair. But today the only way to get rid of white hair is to dye it.
