Steamed vegetables are undoubtedly healthy, good for the heart and are a very good choice for inclusion in our diet. Sometimes, however, they are not cooked the way we want them to be. To avoid messy and tasteless results, find out how you can steam perfect vegetables.

You just need to know how. The taste of stewed vegetables is very pleasant, so it is worth trying to cook them at least once.
Put the vegetables in a bowl with holes (colander), which you place on a pot of boiling water. Vegetables are prepared from the steam created when the water begins to evaporate. Since water does not touch the food and the impact and is not direct, the vegetables retain their nutrients and color and acquire a very pleasant taste.
Before you go out and buy fresh vegetables, it is best to know what you will need to cook them.
You need a cutting board and a sharp knife, as well as a large container with a suitable lid to hold the steam. You also need a container with holes, the so-called heat-resistant colander. Before you start cooking, make sure that the colander is the right size so that it stays on the pot and does not sink. You can buy a special pot for steaming.
Buy fresh vegetables and cut them to approximately the same size to cook evenly. If you want to steam several different types of vegetables, make sure they have a similar texture to cook them all evenly.
When cooking leafy vegetables such as spinach and arugula, do not add potatoes and carrots, but cook them separately. It takes less time to cook leafy vegetables than root vegetables. Broccoli and cauliflower have a similar texture, making them ideal for cooking together.
1. Add 50-100 milliliters of water to the pan and place the colander on it. Make sure that the water does not touch the colander in any way.
2. Bring the water to a boil over high heat and place the vegetables you want to steam in the colander.
3. Season the vegetables with salt and pepper or spices and herbs of your choice.
4. Cover the pan with a lid and reduce the heat to low or medium heat.
Vegetables should be cooked to a soft and tender texture. Try stabbing them with a fork. If they stick easily and you feel that they have softened enough, then you have managed to cook them perfectly.
The stewing time is about 3 minutes, but it depends a lot on the texture and size of the pieces of vegetables. Leafy vegetables cook for about 3 minutes, as do peas because they are tiny. It takes about 10-15 minutes to cook potatoes. Still, check often.
