A recent study shows that men who for one reason or another do not eat breakfast in the morning have a greatly increased risk of heart attack and other cardiovascular complications, compared to men who eat breakfast at least five times a week.
The study's lead author, Dr. Leah Cahill of Harvard College of Public Health in Boston, warned against breakfast.
A healthy and regular breakfast is associated with a reduced risk of diabetes and obesity and gives the body the necessary daily supply of energy. The study demonstrates how individuals who eat breakfast regularly or almost every morning have higher cognitive abilities, are more concentrated in their work and are at a much lower risk of obesity .
To assess whether self-imposed morning starvation harms the heart muscle, Harvard researchers included more than 26,000 men between the ages of 45 and 82 in their study. They and their habits were closely monitored for 16 years.
During this period, 1591 of them suffered a heart attack, mainly affecting men between 45 and 61 years.
According to the data obtained, even with good general health and normal sports activity, men who do not eat breakfast have an increased risk of cardiovascular complications and heart attack.
The study also shows that the majority of younger men regularly miss the most important meal of the day, and the most common skips are: smokers, bachelors, people who are physically inactive and have a full-time job, which begins earlier in the day.
Researchers have found that breakfast is associated with a risk of obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. Each of these conditions significantly accelerates the wear and tear of the heart muscle and leads to problems. Statistics show that people who rarely miss breakfast eat healthier and have a longer life expectancy.
Experts say that the common misconception not to eat breakfast for the sake of losing weight could not be more wrong - the effect of morning fasting is exactly the opposite.
If you still do not have an appetite or persistence overcomes the mind, doctors advise to drink at least a glass of warm milk and never smoke cigarettes early in the morning on an empty stomach.
