Consumption of at least half a liter of milk a day protects our body from today's socially significant ischemic heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. That's according to a study in the UK, conducted among 2,400 people between the ages of 45 and 59, which lasted about 25 years.
One in six patients has metabolic syndrome, a condition characterized by extreme cardiovascular risk. It includes indicators such as abdominal obesity, hyperinsulinemia, impaired carbohydrate tolerance or type 2 diabetes, high LDL and triglycerides, low HDL. Each of the participants regularly reported on the food he consumed. It was found that for those of them who consumed milk and dairy products frequently, the indicators of the metabolic syndrome were much more encouraging.
The head of the study, Peter Elwood of Cardiff University, said that reducing the consumption of dairy products in order to limit animal fats and protect our vessels is unjustified. On the contrary, they can be useful in combating the diseases of the 21st century.
