By starting the 5:2 diet, you don't have to count calories and read exclusively "diet" menu pages in cafes and restaurants. The essence of the diet is that you can eat whatever you want, but (!) Only 5 days a week. What is the secret, you ask? We answer: the remaining 2 days are strictly referred to as “lean”. Read on and we will introduce you to the intricacies of the 5:2 diet!

What is 5:2?

The 5:2 nutrition principle was invented by Michael Mosley, a British journalist who frequently appears on TV health programs. After conducting research, Mosley came to the conclusion that in order to live longer, a person needs to starve. It is at the moment when the body receives fewer calories that the body starts the processes of self-healing. And also a person loses weight without excessive depletion of the body.

The 5:2 diet became a hit with all diets after the results of a study were published that confirmed that people who adhere to this way of eating, unlike people who count calories, reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and improve metabolism, which leads to weight loss. A huge plus of the diet is the fact that you can obviously not limit yourself to food, and this is ideal for food lovers.

The 5:2 diet works like this: 2 days a week you consume about 25 percent of the calories you get on normal days. The next 5 days eat fully - this is important! The bottom line is that in this way the body will receive fewer calories and you will lose weight.

How to eat on "fast days"?

An important aspect of the diet is that on "lean" days you need to eat. And also "lenten" days cannot be more than two in a row. On average, a woman's body should receive about 500 calories a day, a man's - 600. It is advisable to exclude fast carbohydrates (cereals, pasta, bread, sweets and fruits), since they saturate the body only for a short time. In order not to doom yourself to starvation or breakdown, eat foods that will give energy for a long time. Nutrition experts advise choosing vegetables, small amounts of lean meat (such as chicken or turkey), fish, eggs, and, of course, soups. Low-calorie soups (they make you feel full) are the perfect choice! Prepare a classic vegetable soup, to which you can safely add a little chicken or fish fillet.

The main rule of "lean" days is not to divide the total meal by more than 2 times a day. That is, you do not need to eat 5 or 6 times a day, using 100 calories at a time. It will be enough to have 1 or 2 meals per day with a large time interval (for example, breakfast and dinner). The essence of such a diet is to rest the body from the constant digestion of food. It is important to drink more regular water and herbal/green teas.

In a study published in the International Journal of Obesity, researchers found that men who followed the 5:2 diet lost more weight and fat than their counterparts who counted calories. The main thing is endurance and desire! By protecting yourself from excess weight, you will reduce the risk of cardiovascular and cancerous diseases. Of course, the 5:2 diet will be the most effective for those who are already accustomed to proper nutrition and the consumption of sweet and flour products, chips and other harmful substances in smaller quantities. But for beginners, such a diet will be a great start to a healthy lifestyle!

It is perfectly safe for healthy people to follow such a diet, with the exception of children, because they need energy for the growth and development of the body, and pregnant women, they also need extra calories. Of course, we advise you to consult a doctor before you begin to adhere to the 5: 2 diet, so that unforeseen complications do not arise.

We wish you to be healthy and beautiful!
