Leptospirosis, also known as rabbit fever, is an acute infectious disease caused by the pathogenic bacteria Leptospira. They are resistant to cold and survive even in the frozen state, but are sensitive to high temperatures, sunlight, acids and chlorine compounds.

The disease is most common in tropical countries.

Nutrition in leptospirosis

In order to maximize the effect of the therapy and for faster recovery, it is recommended to adhere to a curative diet №5, which does not burden the liver. It consists of the inclusion in the menu of the following foods and beverages:

  • rosehip decoction and unsweetened compotes;
  • freshly squeezed juices;
  • moderate amounts of honey;
  • as many carrots and pumpkin as possible;
  • cereal porridges and casseroles, with an emphasis on oatmeal and buckwheat;
  • lean fish, beef;
  • vegetable soups without stir-fry;
  • eggs in the form of a protein omelet, the yolk can be added, but not to be consumed more than 1 day;
  • skimmed cottage cheese and sour cream in small quantities;
  • oatmeal cookies, bread (but not freshly baked);
  • tea and coffee with milk.

Adherence to a diet can help to avoid complications.

Dangerous and harmful foods in leptospirosis

The main thing in the diet in the presence of the disease is not to consume dishes and products that burden the liver. It therefore follows:

  • not to eat meat from young animals (beef, chicken, pork);
  • to limit the use of products high in cholesterol and purine-based (learn more about " Purines ") - mushrooms, fatty meats and fish;
  • to reduce to a minimum the intake of cold drinks and meals;
  • to exclude animal fats from the menu;
  • to stop alcohol use and smoking;
  • to limit the amount of salt used;
  • not to drink sweetened and carbonated drinks;
  • to exclude legumes;
  • to limit the consumption of egg yolks.
