Some women develop a condition known as preeclampsia during pregnancy . It is associated with increased blood pressure and the appearance of protein in the urine. If your doctor has diagnosed you with preeclampsia, he or she has probably told you to limit the amount of salt in your daily diet.

The one-day diet plan for pregnant women that we will introduce to you is made up of healthy, low-sodium foods to keep your intake low throughout the day (less than 1,500 milligrams of sodium). Included are products that supply nutrients that are essential during pregnancy - protein, folic acid, iron and calcium. The use of alcoholic beverages and foods such as unpasteurized cheeses is excluded.

The diet plan provides 2,200 calories. Remember that every woman has individual needs and may need more or less calories, depending on the needs of the body. Talk to your GP or dietitian before starting such a diet to know if it is right for you.

One-day diet menu for pregnant women suffering from preeclampsia

* A tea cup is used to measure the quantities in the menu.

Breakfast (487 calories)

 

  • 2 cups smoothie with kefir, almond oil and berries
  • 1/4 cup granola with 1/3 cup fresh milk 1%

Snack (228 calories)

  • 1/2 wholemeal baguette
  • 1 tablespoon cream cheese

Toast the wholemeal baguette and spread it with cream cheese.

  • 1 banana

Lunch (510 calories)

  • 2 corn tortillas
  • 1/3 cup unsalted canned black beans
  • 2 tablespoons classic tomato sauce
  • 1/2 avocado, diced
  • 3 tablespoons cheddar cheese, grated
  • a few lettuce leaves, shredded

Heat the corn tortillas, then fill them with black beans, tomato sauce, avocado, cheddar cheese and lettuce.

Afternoon snack (286 calories)

  • 1/4 cup hummus
  • 1 cucumber, cut into circles
  • 1/2 wholemeal bread

Spread the bread with hummus and garnish with cucumber slices.

Dinner (667 calories)

 

  • 1 serving fusilli with two types of cheese and pickled tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons spinach

Season the spinach with 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon vinegar and serve with a portion of fusilli.

Total for the day:

  • 2178 calories
  • 84 grams of protein
  • 1484 grams of sodium
  • 52 grams of fiber
  • 558 micrograms of folate
  • 17 milligrams of iron
  • 1282 milligrams of calcium
