Oncologists Mark Retin and Ezra Cohen of the University of Chicago have expressed their expertise on the issue. They studied the effect of breast cancer therapy on fat consumption. There was an increase in the absorption of the drug compared to the intake of drugs without food. It turned out that in the first case the bioavailability of the drug lapatinib, used in breast cancer, increased by 325%.

According to Retin, only a change in the time of taking the drug can reduce the need for it by about 60%. He also mentions the role of grapefruit juice, which is known to stimulate the absorption of a number of drugs. It is also believed that one of the side effects - diarrhea, is due to incomplete absorption of the drug. Then, by reducing its dose and the amount of unabsorbed substance, diarrhea would be controlled.

The authors expect the manufacturer to do what is necessary and to study the effect of combining lapatinib with grapefruit juice and its application in therapy.
