Red Wine Preserves Youth, But ...

Consumption of resveratrol is associated with prolongation of youth, but higher doses of it cause the opposite effect.

The ingredient in red wine , which has been debated for years, is not so good for health.

Consumption of resveratrol really helps to preserve youth, but when taken in small doses. Larger amounts can have the opposite effect - to accelerate the aging process .

In a new study, researchers observed how resveratrol interacts with "satellite cells" that play a role in repairing damaged muscle tissue .

It is found that it has a different effect depending on its concentration. The results show that small doses of resveratrol help cells in the recovery process, but when it is taken more, the effect is the opposite.

Researchers from Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK conduct their research in a laboratory using muscle cells. They test their recovery cycle, which begins with the activation of "satellite cells".

It has been found that a dose of 10 micromoles of resveratrol stimulates their activation, while a higher concentration of 40-60 micromoles stops this process and even damages the cells.

Resveratrol protects red grapes and cocoa beans from infections .

A study from December 2014, published in the journal Nature , confirmed its positive effect on health. Scientists have found that it mimics another enzyme that has protective properties.
