During the warm summer months, the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables is huge. At the same time, high temperatures and a more active lifestyle predispose to the consumption of mainly fresh fruits and fresh salads.
There is constant talk about the benefits of consuming mainly fruits and vegetables and they are considered to be completely devoid of any contraindications. However, this is not entirely true, experts explain. Daily consumption of large amounts of fresh plants can even be harmful to health.
The cause of health problems is often a food allergy, which those affected do not even suspect.
A number of studies have been done investigating the allergenic properties of fruits and vegetables. According to scientists, the most common causes of allergies among spices and fruits are celery and kiwi.
Studies show that celery root causes stronger intolerance reactions than its leaves. The allergic reaction is mainly expressed in an unpleasant sensation in the mouth and numbness of the tongue and soft tissues in the oral cavity.
Allergic reactions are specific and occur with different severity, duration and complications in each patient. In some, it is extremely mild and may even go unnoticed and undiagnosed for a long time.
In other patients, the allergic reaction may be acute and may even occur with anaphylactic shock, which may occur within minutes and be life-threatening. The cause of the shock is the sudden release of histamine in the body.
Anaphylactic shock is characterized by a sudden drop in blood pressure, swelling of the larynx and soft tissues, swelling of the face, the appearance of red rashes, loss of consciousness. Rapid and adequate treatment is needed to prevent death.
The other strong allergen - kiwi - also gives a varied picture of the ongoing allergic reaction. It can range from mild redness and pimples to severe shock, accompanied by a number of complications. The allergic reaction is particularly strong in young children and people with respiratory diseases (asthma, bronchitis)
Scientists have found that people who are hypersensitive to birch pollen have more severe symptoms and more severe allergies to kiwi.
According to allergists, the cause of the acute reaction are the same allergenic substances found in tree pollen and fruit seeds.
It is suggested that an allergic reaction can also be provoked in people with severe intolerance to nuts.
Apart from celery and kiwi, an allergic reaction can be provoked by other plant products. In most cases, allergies are mild, with a rash or tingling on the tongue and may even go unnoticed. And in these cases there is a relationship between intolerance to fruits and seeds of various trees and grasses.
Scientists reassure that allergic reactions are caused mainly by raw fruits and vegetables and their heat treatment significantly reduces their allergenic effect.
Studies have also shown a relationship between the strength with which allergies occur and the degree of maturation of plants. The more mature they are, the more likely it is that an allergic reaction will occur or that it will be more severe.
