Some foods are high in antioxidants, which are known to protect the body from free radicals, thus helping to fight tumors.
Cancer specialist Tong Chen studied the fruit as a method of preventing tumors in humans after animal studies showed that strawberries had such an effect.
The study was conducted among 36 residents of central China, where cases of esophageal tumors are common. Dr. Chen gives the volunteers lyophilized strawberry powder dissolved in water. The powder contains concentrated useful ingredients of strawberries.
In most cases, esophageal cancer goes through several stages - from precancerous growths, classified as mild, to moderate and severe forms of the disease. After 6 months of consumption of 0.50 ml of strawberry powder per day, 29 of the participants in the study showed a transition to a milder stage of the disease.
Dr. Chan also notes that eating strawberries in large quantities is not a measure to fight cancer. However, research has shown that the fetus could be an adjunct to medications designed to prevent esophageal cancer.
