Suitable Foods For Ulcers

What food is recommended and should be avoided in case of ulcers and gastrointestinal problems ...

The ulcer is a damage to the mucous membrane:

  • on the stomach - stomach ulcers,
  • of the initial sections of the small intestine - duodenal ulcers or
  • less often in the esophagus - esophageal ulcers.

Some people who have an ulcer can eat whatever food they want without feeling uncomfortable. For many others, eating certain foods causes irritation, too much stomach acid, and burning. These people need to make some changes in their diet. Diet for ulcers means eating foods that are not spicy and easy to digest. There is no one right food for everyone with stomach problems. You need to plan your meals so that they contain only products that you tolerate.

It is recommended that you consult a doctor before starting diets for ulcers. For starters - stop smoking and drinking alcohol and take a healthy diet for a while.

People with ulcers should eat foods rich in:

  • Vitamin A - helps to heal damaged tissues of the gastric mucosa. Contained in mangoes, carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes, eggs, milk, cheese and more. However, taking too high doses can be toxic, so inadvertent use of the vitamin as a pharmaceutical should be avoided.
  • Vitamin C - strengthens the immune system and helps tissues heal faster. Found in oranges, lemons, mangoes, strawberries, cabbage, liver, chicken, pork and others.
  • Vitamin E - found in mango, kiwi, spinach, nuts, egg yolk and others.
  • Zinc - found in oranges, potatoes, peas, cheese, milk.

What should be avoided with ulcers and gastrointestinal problems?

If you suffer from an ulcer you should avoid:

  • Alcohol - excessive alcohol intake can aggravate damage to the gastric mucosa;
  • Smoking - disrupts the protective mechanisms of the gastric mucosa and leads to the release of more stomach acid;
  • Hot peppers, hot spices;
  • Onions, garlic,
  • Foods and beverages containing caffeine such as coffee, tea, cola, chocolate. Avoid or reduce these drinks, especially if they cause pain;
  • Tomatoes, tomato juice;
  • Mint;
  • Fat foods;
  • Citrus juices;
  • Cinnamon, cloves;

Eat five or six times, less, instead of eating large portions at once. It is important to avoid overeating. Small, frequent meals are more comfortable and put less stress on the stomach. Rest a few minutes before and after meals. Eat slowly and chew your food well.

If you have an ulcer, you should not take heart tablets, as they contain acetylsalicylic acid, which is absolutely contraindicated in the presence of this disease. Whether acetylsalicylic acid tablets are plain or enterosolvent (so-called special stomach-sparing tablets), they can seriously endanger your health and life if you suffer from an ulcer.
