The traditional diet in the Mediterranean area includes lots of fruits, vegetables, fish, olive oil and relatively little red meat. Numerous studies have shown that this type of diet is associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, but there is evidence that it is also useful for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
It turns out that the Mediterranean diet has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects. 130 patients were divided into two groups to test the effect of the diet. Half of them ate ready-made Mediterranean food at special gatherings, and the others were only instructed on what type of food to consume. It was found that women who were provided with ready meals received more fruits and vegetables, legumes and monounsaturated fats, as in olive oil, and symptoms such as pain, morning stiffness, general condition improved. The other women did not change their diet and did not receive relief from their complaints.
The importance of the gatherings themselves, where their confidence increases, was also taken into account, and they also advised how to be able to buy fruits, vegetables and other healthy products at a low income.
