Milk sausages are a product familiar to us since childhood. But over time, the production process of such products has changed significantly. And, of course, their range has noticeably expanded. Now on the shelves of stores you can find several dozen types of milk sausages, which differ in taste, composition and appearance.
In this regard, a lot of questions arise about how to choose sausages in order to enjoy your favorite taste without harm to health.
Let's try to give an exhaustive answer to each of these questions.
Classic milk sausages, which are prepared according to GOST, necessarily contain milk powder (about 3 percent), which gives them the appropriate taste.
In addition, in addition to the main component (meat), egg powder and spices are added to this product. The use of vegetable (soy) protein in the formula of milk sausages is not allowed.
The composition on the label of milk sausages, like other food products, begins with the predominant component. And in this case, it should be meat (pork and beef).
In general, you need to choose a product with the shortest composition. After all, a large number of chemical additives of health will definitely not bring us.
Although, of course, it is impossible to find a completely natural product, it will have a too short shelf life. Therefore, in the composition of milk sausages, you will definitely find a preservative.
It is easy to assume that sausages are divided into varieties depending on the content of meat in them. Therefore, the higher the grade, the correspondingly more meat is present in the product.
According to modern standards, sausages should be at least 50 percent meat. Also, as mentioned earlier, the product contains milk powder, egg powder, salt, sugar and spices (nutmeg, cardamom, black pepper).
And, most often, sausage manufacturers use an additive such as sodium nitrite (color fixative E 250). It also acts as a preservative.
Some manufacturers add starch to sausages to improve the consistency of the product and retain moisture in it.
Soy is added as a substitute for part of the meat, which greatly reduces the cost of production.
However, these additives should not be present in the composition of the meat product of the highest grade. So pay attention to the label.
High price, as you know, does not guarantee quality!
This should be remembered when choosing any food. But too low a price should also suggest that the manufacturer uses cheap raw materials for the manufacture of sausages and, most likely, makes additives prohibited by GOST to create the necessary taste and texture.
The use of such a product is clearly not beneficial to health, so save wisely!
And now that you know what milk sausages are made of and how to choose them correctly, we offer some interesting recipes using this product.
Fans of pastries will definitely like the wicker sausage pie.
Ingredients:
puff pastry - 500 g, sausages - 8 pcs., hard cheese - 120 g, yolk (for lubrication) - 1 pc., sesame seeds - 2-3 pinches.
Cut the layer of finished puff pastry into two halves (along the length of the sausages). On one of the halves, place slices of cheese in a thin layer, and cut the other half of the dough into 6 equal strips.
Now form the pie in this way: put the first sausage at the beginning of the layer with cheese and cover with dough strips, bend 3 of them in turn and cover the second sausage with them.
Repeat the same with three more pairs of sausages. After all the sausages are braided, tuck the edges of the dough to make a pie, grease the top with yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake a snack braid with sausages at a temperature of 200-220 degrees until golden brown. Serve hot. Bon appetit!
And occasionally you can afford a delicious delicacy - a corn dog (sausage in batter).
You will need the following:
sausages - 2 pcs., flour - 1 tbsp., milk - 1/2 tbsp., egg - 1 pc., baking powder - 2 tsp., salt - to taste, sugar - to taste (optional), deep-frying oil - 1 l.
Prepare a thick batter from the indicated ingredients, dip the sausage halves into it, strung on wooden sticks, and deep-fry until golden brown. You can also fry in a frying pan with less oil, turning the root dogs over with a spatula. Serve hot. Enjoy!
And for those who are not ready to afford high-calorie meals, there is a simple recipe for stewed vegetables with sausages.
Ingredients:
white cabbage - 300-350 g, potatoes - 4-5 pcs., sausages - 2-3 pcs., carrots - 1 pc., onion - 1 pc., tomato sauce - 2 tbsp. l., salt - to taste, ground black pepper - to taste.
Cut the sausages into circles and fry in a pan until golden, transfer to a bowl. Also fry chopped onions and carrots. Add chopped carrots and diced potatoes to them. Simmer vegetables over low heat for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Pour tomato juice into the stewed vegetables, add salt and pepper to taste, as well as your favorite spices (optional) and fried sausages. Stew vegetables with sausages for another 5-7 minutes and serve hot. Great lunch or dinner for the whole family. Try it!
You can cook many more interesting dishes from sausages, the main thing is that they are of high quality and tasty.
However, remember that even sausages that comply with GOST are best consumed periodically. Stick to proper nutrition, but do not deprive yourself of small pleasures!
