Vaccination For Adults: What Vaccinations Are Needed After 18 Years And How Much It Costs

Why vaccination for adults. Vaccination against tetanus, pertussis and diphtheria for adults. Hepatitis vaccination for adults. Vaccination against rubella and measles for adults. Vaccination against influenza

Collective immunity protected many of us from chickenpox, rubella, and mumps: we grew up safely, never having learned all the "charms" of childhood infections. But the older a person becomes, the more difficult it is for him to tolerate infectious diseases without complications. We tell you what vaccinations you need to get to protect yourself from dangerous diseases, and how much it costs in Ukrainian clinics.

Why does an adult need vaccination?

After the introduction of the vaccine, antibodies are produced in the body that form immunity. Sometimes they are not enough for a lifetime, so revaccination is carried out to prevent infections. For example, the measles vaccination you received at age 6 provides protection for only 20 years. Are you already 26? Go to an immunologist!

Some believe that "natural immunity" and a healthy lifestyle are enough to deal with all germs. Unfortunately, this is a myth: no innate immunity will protect us from specific bacteria and viruses.

You can deny that you successfully lived to the noble gray hair without any vaccinations, but you have to thank for this only the collective immunity - all the responsible people who got vaccinated and stopped the circulation of the infection.

Who compiles the vaccination calendar for adults

The vaccination calendar is compiled taking into account the epidemiological characteristics and financial capabilities of the state. In Ukraine, adults are recommended to undergo regular revaccination against diphtheria and tetanus, but other infections circulate in the country, and artificial immunity against which requires additional support.

An individual vaccination calendar for adults should be drawn up by an immunologist or therapist. Only a specialist will determine whether you have antibodies to the infection, recommend a suitable vaccine and prepare for immunization.

1. Vaccination against diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus - every 10 years of life

Vaccination against diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus is done with a combined vaccine every 10 years of life. As a rule, adults are prescribed the drug ADS-anatoxin (ADP-M). The vaccination course includes 2 administrations of the drug with an interval of 30 days.

Anatoxin is well tolerated, may cause redness or thickening at the injection site, a short-term increase in body temperature.

The average price of a vaccine with a doctor's consultation: UAH 950.

2. Vaccination against measles, rubella and mumps - every 10 years of life

If you were vaccinated against PPE (measles, mumps, rubella) as a child, it is recommended to undergo the first revaccination at the age of 22-29. Then vaccination should be done every 10 years of life.

Before vaccination, the patient must be tested for rubella antibodies. Women of childbearing age are vaccinated only if they are not going to get pregnant within 3 months after the procedure.

The average price of a vaccine with a doctor's consultation: UAH 700.

3. Vaccination against chicken pox - at any age. Revaccination is not portable

Chickenpox can be complicated by pneumonia or encephalitis, so vaccination is primarily indicated for adult patients with chronic diseases. It will not hurt healthy people to get vaccinated either (especially if the family plans to have a child in the future).

Vaccination is carried out in 2 stages with an interval of 6-10 weeks. On the first day, there may be moderate pain and redness at the injection site, an increase in temperature to 37.5-38 degrees. Do not panic: this is a normal reaction of the body, in which immunity to infection is formed.

The average price of a vaccine with a doctor's consultation: UAH 970.

4. Vaccination against hepatitis B - at any age. Revaccination is not portable

Immunization against hepatitis B will protect a person from the dangerous consequences of viral infection - cirrhosis and liver cancer. Vaccines available in Ukraine provide reliable protection for 5 years, are well tolerated and rarely cause side effects.

The vaccination schedule and dosage of the drug is selected by the doctor (depending on the age and medical history of the patient). As a rule, revaccination after completed immunization is not carried out.

The average price of a vaccine with a doctor's consultation: UAH 600.

5. Vaccination against hepatitis A - at any age. Revaccination - only according to the indications of the doctor

Vaccination against hepatitis A protects the patient from infection for 10 years. Immunization is primarily indicated for persons at increased risk of infection: travelers, health workers, teachers, military personnel, catering workers, homosexual men and persons with chronic diseases.

To ensure long-term protection, a second vaccination is recommended 6-12 months after the first dose of the vaccine.

The average price of a vaccine with a doctor's consultation: UAH 1,000.

6. Vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis - at any age. Revaccination - 1 time in 3 years

Tick-borne encephalitis is one of those infections that is easier to prevent than to cure. Modern encephalitis vaccines are high-quality and effective, well tolerated and provide reliable protection against infection for 3 years, after which a single revaccination is recommended for the patient.

The average price of a vaccine with a doctor's consultation: UAH 700.

7. Vaccination against tuberculosis - up to 30 years. After 35 - only as directed by a doctor

Prophylactic vaccination against tuberculosis (BCG) is given to adults up to 30 years of age, but only if there is a negative or doubtful Mantoux reaction. After 35 years, revaccination is carried out as prescribed by a doctor (in case of deterioration of the epidemiological situation in the region or in case of contact with infected people).

The average price of a vaccine with a doctor's consultation: UAH 1,200.

8. Influenza vaccination - every year

Vaccination is the only reliable way to protect yourself from the flu virus. Vaccination is recommended every year, as the virus is constantly mutating. Many patients are afraid of the side effects of the flu shot, but they are very rare. Local reactions (runny nose, sore throat, short-term fever) indicate a correct immune response, and you should not be afraid of them.

The average price of a vaccine with a doctor's consultation: UAH 250.

9. Vaccination against HPV - at any age (before the start of sexual life)

The HPV vaccine is recommended for all girls aged 9 to 26. Vaccination is administered three times and is a prevention of acute condylomas, papillomas and cervical cancer. The second dose of the vaccine is administered 2 months after the first, and the third - after 6 months. If you are already sexually active, your gynecologist will tell you about the feasibility of vaccination after a blood test for the human papilloma virus.
