The role of water in the existence of life is indisputable. In every organism it plays the role of a solvent, of a chemical reagent, of a medium for carrying out chemical reactions. It provides the transport of energy sources, enzymes, hormones, biologically active substances, but also the transport of toxic end products of metabolism. The role as a thermoregulator is not small, as well as a factor for maintaining certain volumes and pressures such as blood, intraocular, intracerebral and others.
The human body contains about 70-75% water in newborns to about 60% in middle age. Two thirds of it is intracellular. It is unevenly distributed in individual tissues and organs, with the highest percentage in the nervous system - 84, followed by the kidneys (80), muscles (77), skin (70). In adipose tissue its content is the lowest - only 10%, which is why in overweight people the overall percentage is lower than in the weak. Extracellular water participates in the plasma, lymph, in the composition of the intraocular, intra-articular fluid, as well as that in the peritoneal, pleural and pericardial cavity, in the cerebrospinal fluid and others.
In order to maintain a constant volume of body fluids, it is necessary to have a balance between the intake and loss of water from the body. The latter is carried out through the urinary system - an average of about 1500 ml / 24h, by breathing - about 300 ml / 24h, through sweat and invisible vapors through the skin - 700-800ml / 24h, with feces - about 100-150ml / day.
Today, people are increasingly drinking carbonated beverages, forgetting how useful and vital water is. Here are ten reasons to drink water.
1 Refreshes and rejuvenates the skin.
Today, women make great efforts in caring for their skin and in an effort to devour the vitality of her youth. Often, however, water is neglected as an extremely effective means of skin rejuvenation. Regular drinking of water increases vitality and improves cell turgor, moisturizes the skin from the inside, not only in the epidermis, increases elasticity and prevents dryness.
2 Clears toxins from the body.
Water has a particularly good effect on the gastrointestinal tract. Everyone knows that the kidneys are a natural filter of the body and their proper functioning is directly related to the daily amount of water tested.
3 It is important for proper digestion.
Water not only prevents constipation, but also participates directly in the assimilation and processing of food and in the chemical reactions associated with them. Carbohydrates and proteins, which our body uses as the main energy sources, are transported through the bloodstream through water. And thanks to it, the processed substances are excreted during urination.
4 Reduces the risk of heart attack.
It has been found that people who drink at least 5 glasses of water a day are at a much lower risk of heart attack and heart disease than those who limit themselves to 2 glasses.
5 Regulates body temperature.
Water is a great cooler. After active sports, we often resort to various soft drinks, usually sweet drinks. However, water has been found to have a much better thermoregulatory effect than carbonated beverages with (or without) sugar.
6 Water is important for muscles and joints.
Water is the main material for the formation in our bodies of a special liquid, which is a kind of lubricant. Athletes, especially those who practice strength sports, know that a lack of water in the body can cause muscle spasms. Even if your sports activities are limited to morning gymnastics, remember that in order to save yourself the unpleasant sensations caused by muscle spasms, you should drink water before and after training.
7 Restores energy.
On average, on hot days we lose about 10 glasses of body fluids - through sweating, breathing, urinary processes. Even the slightest dehydration can cause decreased concentration, headaches, irritability and physical fatigue.
Therefore, water is undoubtedly a vital necessity for the proper functioning of the body. The level of oxygen in our circulatory system is directly proportional to the amount of floor we drink. The more oxygen there is in our body, the more fat we will burn to generate energy.
Conversely, with a lack of oxygen, we will convert less fat into energy. And from there the risk of feeling constantly exhausted and tired is very real. In addition, our brains cannot function well if the oxygen that reaches them through the blood is insufficient.
8 Reduces the risk of infections.
Lack of water in our body can lead to a dangerous disease - chronic dehydration of cells. This in turn causes a decrease in vitality and opens the way to various diseases.
9 Burns fat and shapes muscles.
Dehydration leads to delayed synthesis of proteins, which are of great importance for the process of gaining muscle mass. But it needs a lot of energy and therefore needs to be facilitated. Otherwise, the fewer calories we burn and convert into energy, the more they will be deposited in the form of excess subcutaneous fat on various telltale parts of our body.
10 Improves general health.
Doctors often advise drinking more water and fluids, especially for the flu or acute respiratory illness. The water really lowers the temperature, restores the lost fluids and clears the accumulated mucous secretion. Drinking enough water is vital not only on hot days and during sports activities, but also if we are in an environment with high humidity, at high altitudes, in case of nausea, diarrhea. Remember, however, that our body can absorb about 120 ml of water in 10 minutes. So you should not overdo it.
